Medical Leave of Absence

How to Navigate the Medical Leave of Absence Process

During your time at the University of Colorado Anschutz, you may experience life situations, or medical and/or psychological conditions that significantly interfere with your academic and personal success. In these instances, it may be necessary to take time away from CU Anschutz to focus on your health. A medical leave of absence is intended to provide you with the opportunity to fully attend to your health and wellbeing typically for one full academic year and minimum of one semester. CU Anschutz has created a process to support you in navigating the process of taking a Medical Leave of Absence.

The first step is filling out the Medical Leave of Absence application.  Next, a member of the Student Outreach and Support team will contact you to understand more about your concerns and walk you through the next steps in the process. This process will coordinate communication between you and your school/college and appropriate university offices. Note that students are not on a Medical Leave of Absence until all necessary documentation is provided and you receive notice from Student Outreach and Support that your Leave has been approved.

If you have questions or want to talk with someone before you submit your application please schedule an appointment with the Student Outreach and Support Office or call them at (303) 724-8488.
