Federal Loans
You do not need a credit check to qualify for most federal student loans. PLUS loans are the exception.
Private Loans
Private loans often require an established credit record, or a cosigner if your credit is limited.
Once you have used your federal and school aid, a private loan can help cover what is left. You apply for a private loan directly with a lender, not through CU. Here is how to do it in three steps.
Compare lenders before you choose. Use the links below to see options for your student group. Some lenders chose not to be listed in ELMSelect and are listed separately on this website.
Apply on your chosen lender's website. When they ask for your school, use the school code below.
School Code (FAFSA & Loan Applications)
004508
CU Anschutz students use the University of Colorado Denver school code, 004508. This one code covers both campuses.
Find your student group, then apply for the matching loan period during the apply window.
