Yes, but the VA is considered the last payer. Per VA regulations, the university can only certify the net cost of in-state tuition and fees after the application of any waiver, or reduction in, tuition and fees and any scholarship, or other Federal, State, institutional, or employer-based aid or assistance that is provided directly to the institution and specifically designated for the sole purpose of defraying tuition and fees.
Examples of funding that reduce your Chapter 31 coverage:
Military Tuition Assistance (TA)
Tuition Buy-Downs
Tuition-Specific Scholarships
Departmental Funding (Interdepartmental Invoices)
Tuition Remissions
College Opportunity Fund (COF)
You can still use these resources, but they will reduce the amount the VA pays.
Note: Pell Grants and loans do not reduce your Chapter 31 benefits.
