VMWare Horizon Rebrand to Omnissa Horizon
Jun 18, 2025
ISS is happy to offer Remote Desktop Services (also known as End User Compute or virtual desktop) to our faculty and staff. Our Remote Desktop provider recently rebranded the service from VMWare Horizon to Omnissa Horizon. As we upgrade the various components of the environment, you will see the green VMWare Horizon icon replaced by a blue Omnissa Horizon Client icon among other branding updates. The cost and service will remain unchanged.

In addition to having a new icon on your computer to log into your Remote Desktop, we are also upgrading the Horizon virtual machines to Windows 11 and cleaning up unused applications on the Horizon home screen. Upgrading Horizon virtual machines to Windows 11 offers a modern and familiar interface to our users, including the new Windows 11 start menu. This upgrade adds better security, improved loading times, and compatibility with modern applications such as the latest versions of Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
To make the Horizon virtual environment more user friendly and useful to faculty and staff, we are cleaning up the list of published applications to better match your needs. To help you quickly find what you need to do your work, we are removing the outdated and unused applications offered to users at the login. The featured applications will be simplified to the ones our users utilize the most.
If an application that you need to conduct business has been removed or you need assistance with migrating to the new version of Outlook, please contact the OIT Service Desk and we will gladly restore it for you.
Logging into and accessing the Remote Desktop Horizon virtual environment, as well as the functionality of your sessions, will remain unchanged. Learn more about the Omnissa Horizon Client on our website and please contact the OIT Service Desk if you have any questions.
