In the flexible work environment that Teams Calling provides, your physical location changes as you move around using different devices, which makes accurate location data essential for emergency response. Location data is only accessed if Teams Calling is used to place a 911 emergency call. It is not tracked for any other purpose. The Location Services Standard outlines the Standard for enabling location services for Microsoft Teams Calling on university-owned devices at CU Anschutz and CU Denver.
The purpose of this Standard is to ensure faculty, staff and student safety; compliance with regulatory requirements; and decrease response times during emergencies by ensuring the university can provide required location data for emergency response if Teams Calling is used to dial 911.
Why are Location Services Important for Safety?
Location services provide first responders with the location of the individual who placed a 911 call through the Microsoft Teams Calling app. It is essential for maintaining a safe working and learning environment both on campus and remotely. This Standard enhances our ability to protect our campus community and allows first responders to respond quickly in emergencies, helping us put safety first while staying compliant with federal laws: RAY BAUM’s Act and Kari’s Law.
How Will Location Services Data be Used?
Your privacy is important and a priority. Location services data will only be collected in the event that you use Microsoft Teams Calling to dial 911.
Location services data will be sent directly to first responders. ISS and OIT will not review the data, nor will we utilize or collect location services information for any other purpose. This data is highly confidential and protected.
