In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), CU Anschutz is committed to protecting students' educational records by limiting the disclosure of their personal (non-directory) information.
If a student contacts CU regarding their student record, they will be required to verify their identity either by providing a photo ID (government or university-issued) or their established security passphrase. If a student has not set up a passphrase, they will be asked to do so prior to the release of any information.
The security passphrase should not be shared with anyone. If a student needs a third party (e.g. parent or guardian) to have access to their record, the student will need to provision their access via through CU Guest Access and/or a FERPA Consent to Release.
A student's passphrase may contain up to 50 alphabetical characters (numbers, symbols, and special characters are not accepted), and should be easy to remember, but difficult to guess.
To foster a safe, welcoming, and professional campus environment, students should not use lewd, intimidating, abusive, or threatening language in their passphrase. Doing so allows CU personnel to refuse service, and refer the student to their school, college, or program's professionalism or conduct office.
