CU Guest Access

CU Guest Access is a read-only, online option for guests to view specific aspects of your education record. You can select components of your record that the guest can view, and you can modify or revoke access at any time. Guests can’t make any changes to your record or complete any transactions on your behalf.

Please note: CU Guest Access does not authorize a guest to contact the university to request or discuss your student education record. Student record information can only be accessed by a parent or third party if the student has filed a FERPA Consent to Release.

What’s Included?

A limited number of items are available to view through CU Guest Access. Students may assign any or all of the following:

  5. After accepting the terms and conditions, enter the guest’s name and email address, and select which items the guest can access.
  6. The email address used for each guest should match the email used for their LinkedIn, Gmail/Google, or Facebook accounts, since CU Guest Access uses these platforms to authenticate guest users.
  7. After saving, a confirmation email will be sent to the student’s university issued email address as well as their Guest’s email address.
  8. Students can assign, modify, or revoke guest access at any time.

Students can grant access to an unlimited number of guests, and the granted access can be unique for each one. The information shared with guests is the same data available in the Student Center area of the UCDAccess Portal.

How to Activate CU Guest Access

After the student submits guest access credentials, an email will be sent to the designated address outlining the record components granted for access, along with a link to complete the guest account setup.

1. Use the link provided in the email to access the University of Colorado's CU Guest Access Authentication page.

2. Connect the CU Guest Access account to an existing LinkedIn, Facebook, or Google/Gmail account that matches the email address submitted by the student.

  • This connection is used for authentication purposes only. The University retains no record of nor access to the social media account used.
  • If guests don’t have an existing account with the available social media platforms, guests will need to create one (Gmail/Google is recommended) to continue with CU Guest Access.
  • If the initial email address submitted by the student is not affiliated with one of these platforms, request the student to re-submit an email address that is to continue with CU Guest Access.
  • Follow the on-screen steps to authenticate the guest’s social media credentials with the CU System Login (steps differ slightly for each social media provider).

3. On the Create Account screen, enter the email address that was submitted by the student and the guest’s first and last name. Click Create Account.

  • If a message appears stating the email address is incorrect, click OK, confirm the email address entered is correct and try again.
  • If an error message appears stating that an account already exists with that email address, it is likely a CU guest account was previously created for a different student. Click OK, click on the CU Guest Access link on the logout page and log back in with your social media credentials. Accept the terms and conditions and provide the security key from the most recent email.

Returning guests: The authentication is complete, and the information for the additional student should be available in CU guest access. For guests who’ve already activated their accounts, log into CU Guest Access.
First-time users: If authentication is successful, then a second email will be sent from [email protected] with instructions to complete the activation step.

Activation (For First-Time Users Only)

After receiving the second email, follow the steps below to activate the new CU guest account.

  1. Go to the University of Colorado's CU Guest Access authentication page.

  2. Sign in using the same LinkedIn, Facebook or Google/Gmail account that is connected to the new account created the previous steps.

  3. On the terms and conditions page:
  • Read the terms and conditions, then click the checkbox next to I accept terms and conditions.
  • Enter the security key contained in the second email.
  • Enter the email address to which the email was sent.
  • Click Submit.

   4. Access to the shared information center is now complete. To exit, click Sign out.
