Receiving Access Control Badge:
By taking possession of your access control badge you confirm that: All information printed on your access control badge is correct.
You must contact the Security Badging Office of any changes to the information listed on the access control badge.
You agree to abide by the terms and conditions set forth above and understand that any violation of these terms and conditions may result in revocation of card access privileges; adverse administrative actions (including termination of employment, affiliation or student status); and/or criminal prosecution, if a crime has been committed.
Care and Use of Access Control Badge
You are fully responsible for the safekeeping and proper use of your access control badge; this includes observance of the following precautions and guidelines:
Shield from heat and any exposure that causes damage. Do not puncture, pierce, cut or bend. Do not, under any circumstances, allow use by others. Your security access badge belongs to the University; you must return it to the Security Badging Office before a replacement can be issued or upon termination of employment.
Outside of business hours (or 24/7 in some cases), many University building doors and parking lots can be accessed only by scanning your access control badge in front of a card reader (rectangular panel located to the right or left of the door or gate). If your badge contains the appropriate access, you should hear a beep and/or see a green indicator light as you pass it within one inch of the reader surface, after which you will have about five seconds to enter the door or gate. Do not hold or prop open card-access doors for more than a few seconds. This will prompt an alarm and/or a response from University Police.
In the event of a card reader or card malfunction, you may contact the Security Badge Office during business hours or Police Dispatch after-hours by calling directly or utilizing one of several indoor and outdoor emergency phones on campus that ring directly to Police Dispatch. Before we can admit you to the area you seek to enter, we must verify your access authorization and identification. You can also report a badge or reader problem online.
University policy requires CU Anschutz students, faculty, staff, and contractors to wear their control access badges (visible between neck and waist) while on campus and to immediately report a lost or stolen badge to the Security Badging Office so that the missing security access badge is deactivated. You are prohibited from loaning or borrowing badges, admitting unauthorized personnel or gaining unauthorized access to campus facilities. The Electronic Security Division has software that records each time a security access badge is used for access. You are required to protect your security access badge from damage caused by bending, cracking, breaking or hole-punching, or by exposure to heat, pets, washing machines, etc.
Your security access badge is also a photo identification card that helps inform security and others that your presence is authorized on campus. University policy requires CU Anschutz students, faculty, staff and contractor/vendors to wear their badges (visible between the neck and waist) while on campus. Failure to do so may result in denial of services.
Immediately report a lost or stolen access control badge to the Security Badging Office (SBO) Monday – Thursday 8:00am – 4:00pm and on Fridays 8:00am – 12:30pm, or contact University Police Dispatch outside of SBO hours at 303-724-4444, so that the lost/stolen access control badge is deactivated.
If you transfer to another school or department on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, you must notify the Security Badging Office and follow procedures to obtain a new access control badge. Your previous access will be updated. Your access control badge is University property and must be returned to the SBO when you are no longer associated with the Campus.
Replacement fee for a lost badge or damage (due to negligence) is $18.
Replacement fee for RTD College Pass [for students] is $20.
The Security Badging Office accepts checks and credit cards (Visa or MasterCard).
