Meet Chief Matthew D. Harris PhD.

 

Matthew D. Harris, PhD, is the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Police for the CU Anschutz Police Department, with a distinguished career in oversight and law enforcement. Previously, he served as Sheriff for Clear Creek County, Colorado, first appointed to modernize the office and later elected. He has also held executive roles with HUD's OIG, overseeing nationwide investigations, and served as U.S. Marshal for the District of Utah, where he was appointed by the President and confirmed by the US Senate, overseeing district operations and managing a large jail population. He also served in leadership roles at the Government Accountability Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

 Chief Harris has also served as an adjunct associate professor of government and politics at the University of Maryland, an adjunct professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a board member for the Association of Inspectors General.

He holds a doctorate in business administration from Northcentral University, a Master of Public Administration degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor of Science degree in public administration and criminal justice from Kutztown University. He also holds the designations of Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Inspector General.

 He has published research on police leadership and government oversight, served on professional boards, and spoken at national conferences. Committed to public service, accountability, and public safety, Chief Harris takes a collaborative approach while embracing technology and continuous improvement. His professional and research interests include organizational culture, complacency, and pseudo-transformational leadership.
