Yes. SHIP provides coverage for medically necessary infertility diagnosis and treatment, including certain fertility treatments and fertility preservation services when eligibility requirements are met.

Because coverage is subject to the terms of the plan, we encourage you to review the Coverage & Benefits page and the plan documents for complete details. If you have additional questions about your coverage, please contact the SHIP Office.

Students can determine how much a prescription will cost by utilizing the Sydney Mobile application or logging into your Anthem online account and navigating to "Find care & Costs."

Fall gradutes will have coverage effective through December 31. 

Spring graduates will have coverage effective through July 31. 

Graduates can opt-in for 1-3 months of Continuation Coverage through CU Anschutz SHIP after the end of the policy term.

For example, a Fall graduate would be eligible to extend from Aug 01 thru Oct 31 and a sSpring graduate would be eligible to extend from Jan 01 thru March 31. Upcoming graduates can reach out to the SHIP office via email for more details.

**Only students who were enrolled in CU Anschutz SHIP for the semester in which they are graduating will be eligible for Continuation Coverage. 

College is an exciting time, but unexpected illnesses and injuries can happen. Health insurance helps ensure you can receive the medical care you need without facing significant out-of-pocket expenses.

To support student health and well-being, the University requires eligible students to maintain health insurance coverage. Students without comparable coverage are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Students with comparable insurance may be eligible to waive SHIP.

If you already have comparable health insurance, you may qualify to waive SHIP. Your plan must meet the University's waiver requirements, and you must submit a waiver request each semester by the published deadline.

Students who experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) of losing other coverage may opt into the CU Anschutz SHIP for coverage beginning the first of the month within 30 days of losing your other coverage.

For example, if you lose coverage 08/31, you can submit the enrollment form between August 1 and September 30 to request coverage beginning 09/01.

All eligible students are automatically enrolled into the CU Anschutz SHIP coverage upon registering for courses each semester.  

It is important to note that SHIP enrollment occurs after the student has registered for courses. Please allow 1-3 business days after regsitering for courses for your insurance information to be available.  If you experience a delay longer than this, reach out to the SHIP Office for assistance. 

All students enrolled in one or more credit hours in a degree-seeking or financial aid eligible certificate program are required to have insurance.

The CU Anschutz SHIP does not offer dependent/spouse coverage. 

The CU Anschutz SHIP coverage includes both dental and vision benefits at no additional cost.  For more details on the vision and dental benefits, vist our Coverage & Benefits page.

SHIP premiums are automatically added to your student account upon registering for courses each semester. 

The premium will be labeled "Student Health Insurance Plan fee."

The CU Anschutz Bursar is incredibly helpful in assistin you with payment options.  Please visit their website to learn more about authorizing Financial Aid to pay for your tuition & fees.  

How to Access or Request Your Anthem ID Card

Your Anthem ID card is available digitally through your online account. To support paperless access, a physical ID card is not automatically mailed. You can view, download, or request a printed card using one of the options below.

Option 1: Access Your ID Card Using the Sydney Mobile App

1. Download the Sydney Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

2. Log in using your Anthem account credentials.

3. Select ID Card from the main menu to view, save, or share a digital copy of your card.

Option 2: Access or Request Your ID Card Through the Anthem Website

1. Log in to your Anthem online account.

2. From your account dashboard, select ID Card.

3. Choose View or Print ID Card to download a digital copy, or select Request ID Card to have a physical card mailed to you.

Having your ID card readily available helps ensure smooth access to care and accurate billing at appointments.

How to Register and Access Your Anthem Account

We encourage you to register for your Anthem online account to easily manage your health care benefits in one place.

Getting Started

1. Visit Anthem’s member website or open the Sydney Mobile app.

2. Select Register if this is your first time logging in.

3. Follow the prompts to create your account using your member information.

What You Can Do in Your Anthem Account

Once registered and logged in, you can:

• Access your plan documents and benefit details

• View important messages and notifications

• Check the status of claims and explanations of benefits (EOBs)

• Request or view your ID card

• Submit forms and manage authorizations

• Update your personal information

• Explore additional benefits and wellness resources included with your plan

Creating your Anthem account helps you stay informed, organized, and in control of your health care coverage.

While the CU Anschutz plan does not offer dependent coverage, we recommend applying for coverage through Medicaid or reviewing plans on the Colorado Healthcare Exchange.

You may also explore options through private insurers such as Anthem BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, etc. but be careful to avoid short-term insurance plans and plans that do not meet Minimum Essential Coverage requirements as defined by the Affordable Care Act.  Short-term insurance policies are not sufficient to waive the CU Anschutz SHIP. 

If you have other comparable coverage, you can waive the CU Anschutz SHIP by completing and submitting an insurance waiver in the waiver portal during the designated waiver period. 

Waivers must be submitted each semester before the stated deadlines. 

 

The deadline to apply for a waiver varies by semester. Please view our Costs & Important Deadlines page for more information. 

Most students only need to submit a waiver once each academic year at the start of the Fall semester.

• Students enrolled in the Fall semester: Submit a waiver during the Fall waiver period. If your waiver is approved, it will remain in effect for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters of that academic year.
  
• Students who begin in a Spring or Summer semester: Submit a waiver for your first semester of enrollment. You will then need to submit a new waiver during the next Fall waiver period to continue waiving SHIP for the following academic year.

A new waiver is required at the beginning of each academic year to ensure your health insurance coverage continues to meet the University's waiver requirements.

Please review the waiver requirements and plans that do not qualify to waive SHIP on our Enroll or Waive Coverage page. 

Waiver requests may be denied for a variety of reasons. Common reasons include:

• Your health insurance plan does not meet one or more of the University's waiver requirements.
• The information provided in your waiver request was incomplete or could not be verified.
• Your insurance coverage was not active for the required coverage period.
• The waiver request was submitted after the published deadline.

If your waiver request is denied, you'll remain enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and receive coverage through the University's student health insurance plan.

If you believe your waiver was denied in error or you have questions about the decision, please contact the SHIP Office. We're happy to review the decision with you and discuss any available next steps.

1. Reach out to the Anthem Waiver Support team to determine why your waiver was denied. Provide any additional documentation requested. 
   
2. Reach out to the SHIP Office for a waiver denial review. 
   

It can take up to five business days for the charge to drop off of your student account after a successful waiver submission. ​If you experience a delay longer than this, please email us at studentinsurance@cuanschutz.edu for assistance. 

If a waiver request was not submitted during the waiver/enrollment period, you will need to submit an appeal for review. Below is the link to access this appeal request:

Please note that appeals are reviewed on a case by case basis and all extenuating factors will need to be addressed when submitting as the appeal decision is final and only based on the information submitted by the student.
