Resources for Faculty, Staff and Students

Faculty, staff and students are always welcome to speak with the media to share their scholarly expertise or personal perspective. If they choose to engage, it is important to clarify whether they are speaking in an academic capacity or from personal experience — not on behalf of the university.

For op-eds or other written materials, the following disclaimer is also recommended:
"The opinions expressed in this column are the author’s and do not represent the position of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus."

If a reporter seeks the university’s official position on a topic, refer them to the CU Anschutz media relations office at Media@cuanschutz.edu.

Style Guidelines for Media

In print publications and on the web, the appropriate first reference for the institution is the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. 

On the second reference, CU Anschutz Medical Campus or CU Anschutz is the preferred name. 

After first mention of University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, titles can utilize the school name. For example:

• Dr. Steve Morris, a professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU School of Medicine)

When referencing a school, center or institute on the campus, the appropriate format is to name the school at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, CU Anschutz Medical Campus or CU Anschutz. For example:

• Colorado School of Public Health at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus 
• Or Colorado School of Public Health at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus 
• Or Colorado School of Public Health at CU Anschutz

For TV broadcast, the preferred use is CU Anschutz Medical Campus on-air and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus included in the web story.
