Colorado AHEC connects CU Anschutz students with current and future health professionals in rural and urban medically underserved areas by providing housing for students on clinical rotations more than 40 miles from CU Anschutz through a network of over 500 host homes.
CU Anschutz students may choose from two options, COAHEC Arranged Housing or Student Found Housing for their clinical training rotations.
COAHEC arranged housing is offered via a cooperative program with the CU Anschutz Health Professions schools. COAHEC arranged housing is with private homeowners, dorms, or COAHEC owned properties in or near the community where the student is on rotation. All properties are inspected and hosts are background checked. Regional housing coordinators make the housing arrangements and pay the homeowner.[tab 1 content - click edit to update]
CU Anschutz students may choose to find their own housing. This housing is not vetted by COAHEC or CU Anschutz. The student pays for the housing in advance and requests reimbursement when the rotation has ended. Reimbursement is a maximum of $23 per night of the rotation. Students must follow reimbursement procedures and deadlines.

By opening your home to a student, you are supporting the next generation of health professionals and strengthening access to care in rural and underserved areas.
Homeowners who participate in the Colorado AHEC housing network agree to provide:
- A safe and respectful environment – A home that is safe, secure, and free from harassment or discrimination of any kind.
- Clean, functional space – A private bedroom (or clearly defined sleeping area) that is clean, furnished, and in good working order.
- Access to basic amenities – Reasonable access to a bathroom, kitchen space, and common areas, including use of appliances as agreed upon.
- Clear house guidelines – Written or verbal expectations about guests, quiet hours, smoking/vaping, pets, parking, shared spaces, and other household norms.
- Open communication – Willingness to communicate promptly about scheduling, arrival/departure, questions, or any housing concerns.
Homeowners are compensated for their participation and housing arrangements may vary by region.
