Since 1989, Mini Med School at CU Anschutz has educated and thrilled audiences of all ages and interests throughout Colorado and beyond with presentations by renowned doctors on topics ranging from chronic medical conditions to current and emerging medicine.
It is a series of eight lectures on basic science as it relates to medicine and is presented by medical doctors from the CU Anschutz School of Medicine.
The 8-week lecture series is split into two semesters. The Fall semester has four lectures on Wednesday evenings in October, while the remaining four occur in April during the Spring semester. Each semester includes a “Frontier’s in Medicine” presentation.

Dr. Rachel Rodriguez is a family medicine physician; practicing in Lone Tree, Colorado since 2017. She attended medical school at CU School of Medicine (where she was blessed to have been taught by the one and only Dr. JJ Cohen, whose brilliance and passion for education led to the development of The Mini-Med School) and completed her residency at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. Her favorite part of her job is spending time with her patients and additionally she wears the hats of Physician Informaticist and the Associate Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Family Medicine. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and has been a 5280 Top Doc since 2024.

Liz Gundersen, MD is a dedicated physician committed to advancing patient care and medical education. With a background in internal medicine, Dr. Gundersen believes, “Everyone has a story. I believe in learning people's stories so I can treat them as whole people and partner with them in their care.”
Dr. Gunderson is an associate professor in internal medicine, practicing at the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital. Her specialty is in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
She attended medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University (2000) and completed her residency at the University of Massachusetts Program, Family Medicine (2003) and fellowship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine (2013).

Christopher Latimer, MD is one of the General Child Neurologists, and Assistant Professors of Pediatrics and Neurolog at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and Children's Hospital Colorado. He completed Medical School at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, then residency training in Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, followed by Child Neurology residency training at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. He see patients throughout childhood and adolescence, with a variety of neurologic conditions/concerns, and has a special interest in patients with Vestibular and Balance Disorders, as part of the Balance Clinic with ENT, Physical Therapy, and Audiology at Children's Hospital Colorado.

Dr. Doug Speedie is a semi-retired doctor with 48 years of experience.
Dr. Speedie’s experience includes serving as an ER Doc and spending more than two decades in a West Slope Internal Medicine practice, with extensive experience in hospitals and the ICU. He served for 12 years as a Medical Director at Rocky Mountain Health Plans, an insurance company, and was responsible for quality review for both the West Slope and the Front Range. Finally, he has over six years of experience as a PACE Medical Director, caring for the poor and elderly with disabilities. He has served on several nonprofit boards, including CPHP, a statewide board, and WCAHEC on the West Slope. He was Chairman of the Delta Health Board in Delta. Obtained an MBA to understand the business of medicine better. Has been an Assoc. Prof for CU Health teaching Med Students and Residents, as well as more recently PA students from CU and CMU. He’s the proud owner of dogs for eight overlapping generations; there are many life lessons to be learned from Dogs.
Currently, he volunteers as a SHIP and SMP counselor, helping people with Medicare Issues and Fraud, Error, and Abuse in the medical system.
