CU Anschutz was awarded $50,000 by the Colorado Circular Communities (C3) Enterprise's Impact Grant Program. C3 is guided by a board of directors and supported by Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) staff. Built on the foundation of previous programs, C3 helps streamline waste aversion and diversion efforts across Colorado and provides greater flexibility for funding and technical assistance for all of Colorado to advance material circularity efforts.
CU Anschutz commits to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill by 20% by 2030 by making waste diversion simple, accessible, and impactful. The campus aims to contribute to the circular economy by prioritizing reducing consumption, reusing materials, and recycling. However, a great challenge to overcome is the lack of easily identifiable and accessible trash and recycling receptacles. This challenge will be addressed with the grant money awarded by C3. This investment in new waste bins and signage will incorporate waste diversion best practices and alleviate recycling confusion on campus.
