AFTER THE HIRE

  • After the Hire
Our ability to attract and hire diverse candidates does not stop when a search ends. We have a responsibility to ensure that employees from all backgrounds - whether they be employees of color, women employees, disabled employees, veteran employees, LGBTQ+ employees, or any other employees - feel safe, welcome, and supported at work. If a particular school, college, department, or unit has a reputation for treating certain types of employees poorly, that will have a detrimental impact on our recruiting efforts. In this section, you will find information about our Diversity Network for current employees.
Existing Diversity Network

As we all know, diversity and inclusion are core values and guiding principles at the University of Colorado. CU Anschutz's top priorities include using an equity lens in recruitment practices.  In addition, Pillar 3 of the CU System Strategic Plan is Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Access.

We know that many of you are engaged in a variety of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts across the Anschutz campus. In order to create a full catalog of DEI initiatives across both campuses and provide opportunities for collaboration as part of ensuring that we uphold our commitment to creating an inclusive campus culture, the Staff Inclusive Leadership Committee (SILC) and the Council on Diversity and Equity for Human Resources (CODE HR) are collecting information about all of the DEI initiatives occurring across both campuses.

The Office of Equity has created a Diversity & Inclusion (DI) Initiative Survey for you to complete if you are engaged in any DEI work in any capacity.  Their goals in asking you to complete this form are to:

  • Identify departments/persons/schools doing DEI work in order to fill gaps where needed;
  • Build a community for those who are doing this work to enhance collaboration, support, and/or funding resources for DEI initiatives to have greater impact; and
  • Promote inclusive hiring, recruiting, and retention practices.

They encourage the submission of any DEI-related initiatives occurring on the Denver or Anschutz campus. Some examples of DEI initiatives that have been submitted by campus community members include the Council on Diversity & Equity in Human Resources, the Staff Inclusive Leadership Committee, the Diversity & Health Equity Program, and the CLAS Office for Inclusive Excellence in STEM.

D&I Initiatives On-Campus

The following are Anschutz D&I Initiatives* We will continue to update these lists as we continue to receive submissions.

In addition to the efforts listed for each campus, please note that there are persons doing critical work related to DEI research, as well as departments who are working to recruit and retain marginalized student, faculty, and staff populations to aid in DEI efforts. If you are interested in research and/or departmental recruiting/retention opportunities, talk to your department’s HR representative, your supervisor, and/or reach out to Karissa Stolen at karissa.stolen@ucdenver.edu to find more information.

Note*: D&I initiatives operate independently. If you have questions about any initiative, please contact the initiative’s leader(s).

Community of Practice on Cultural and Linguistic Competence in Developmental Disabilities

Renee Charlifue-Smith (renee.charlifue-smith@cuanschutz.edu)

Sandra Friedman (sandra.friedman@childrenscolorado.org)

Colorado is one of a group of 10 states/jurisdiction that has been selected to be a Community of Practice on Cultural and Linguistic Competence in Developmental Disabilities (CoP). The goal is to transform the state developmental disability systems to promote cultural and linguistic competence through changes through changes in policy, practice, values, and structures. Our core leadership team include the state Developmental Disabilities system (HCPF) - Tasia Sinn; University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (JFK Partners) - Sandra Friedman and Renee Charlifue-Smith; state Protection and Advocacy agency (Disability Law Colorado) - Shannon MacKenzie; DD Council (Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council) - Joelle Brunner; and The Arc of Colorado - Christiano Sosa. An Advisory Committee has been selected and includes a diverse representation of persons with lived experiences, caregivers, providers and related stakeholders of culturally, linguistically, and geographically diverse groups. The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to guide efforts to increase cultural and linguistic competency in Colorado's system of long-term services and supports serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The vision is that all systems within Colorado that individuals with disabilities and their families encounter will be responsive to their beliefs, values, attitudes, language, needs and wishes to facilitate meaningful inclusion across their lifespan. To achieve that vision, the team would like to partner with community members of culturally and linguistically diverse groups to understand barriers in the system for individuals with diverse backgrounds to accessing services and identify and guide the implementation of potential solutions. The CoP is funded by the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Administration for Community Living, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a five-year Cooperative Agreement.
