Institute has grown significantly and seeks to inspire future medical professionals. The free, week-long camp offers valuable early exposure to medical careers and state-of-the-art equipment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed significant weaknesses in rural health care systems, highlighting the need for tailored strategies to protect and improve rural health. This playbook, informed by interviews with rural health leaders and community members, extensive literature, and data analysis, offers a flexible approach to address the unique challenges faced by rural areas. Instead of providing a one-size-fits-all solution, it presents hypothetical cases and strategic prompts to guide rural leaders in developing local, innovative solutions. Emphasizing the importance of grassroots problem-solving and leadership, the playbook aims to empower rural communities to strengthen their health care systems and ensure their long-term viability.

A study evaluating the accuracy of primary care output metrics from US medical schools found that the commonly used Residency Match Method overstates primary care placement. Analyzing data from 17,509 graduates across 20 medical schools, the study revealed that while the Residency Match Method predicted a 41.2% primary care rate, the actual rate was only 22.3%. The new Intent to Practice Primary Care Method predicted a 17.1% rate, which more closely matched the actual output. The study suggests adopting this new method for more accurate workforce planning and reporting.
