Since 1989, Mini Med School at CU Anschutz has educated and thrilled audiences of all ages and interests throughout Colorado and beyond with presentations by renowned doctors on topics ranging from chronic medical conditions to current and emerging medicine.
It is a series of eight lectures on basic science as it relates to medicine and is presented by medical doctors from the CU Anschutz School of Medicine.
The 8-week lecture series is split into two semesters. The Fall semester has four lectures on Wednesday evenings in October, while the remaining four occur in April during the Spring semester. Each semester includes a “Frontier’s in Medicine” presentation.



If you registered in the Fall, there is no need to register again for the Spring session.

Matthew Wynia, MD, MPH is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, with additional training in public health and health services research. He has worked nationally and internationally on issues related to professionalism and the social roles of physicians, including the roles of health professionals in the Holocaust and the contemporary implications of this legacy. He has worked with organizations including the American Medical Association, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, the American Board of Medical Specialties, and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, and he has led national projects on medicine and the Holocaust, professionalism in medicine and public health, ethics in wartime, truth and racial reconciliation in medicine, and more. He is a member of the Lancet Commission on medicine, Nazism and the Holocaust, and he has served on numerous other major commissions. Dr. Wynia has delivered more than 2 dozen named lectures and visiting professorships and is the author of more than 230 published articles. He has served as president of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), chair of the Ethics Forum of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and chair of the Ethics Committee of the Society for General Internal Medicine (SGIM). Dr Wynia currently leads the University of Colorado’s Center for Bioethics and Humanities, where the Holocaust, Genocide and Contemporary Bioethics program spans all health sciences training programs and all 4 campuses.
Dr. Deane is a Rheumatologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz. His undergraduate training was at the University of California, Davis, which is near his hometown of Auburn, California. He completed medical school at Loma Linda University and his Internal Medicine Residency and Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Colorado. He practices outpatient and inpatient clinical rheumatology at UCHealth. His research interests are in understanding how rheumatoid arthritis (RA) develops, and especially the biology of RA prior to the onset of the first swollen joint – a period that can be termed ‘pre-RA’. He has also participated in research related to the role of the lung in RA – both as an initiating site for RA, and as a ‘target’ for autoimmune-mediated injury. Robert Meguid, MD, MPH, FACS, is the Stan & Mary Ellen Cope Family Endowed Chair and Professor of Surgery in the Section of General Thoracic Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, Colorado. Dr. Meguid joined the faculty in 2012 after completing his general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, a research fellowship in thoracic oncology, a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Washington. He is the Associate Vice Chair of Clinical Research in the Department of Surgery. He is a founding member and a past president of the Thoracic Surgery Outcomes Research Network, a member of the AATS, SUS, STS, WTSA, ESTS, AAS, Surgical Outcomes Club, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His research interests are in the identification and development of processes and systems of care leading to improved surgical patient outcomes. These efforts are currently focused on improving patient understanding and provider assessment of preoperative risk, and on using advanced statistical methodology to identify adverse postoperative outcomes. He practices in all aspects of general thoracic surgery. His clinical expertise in thoracic Surgery is in minimally invasive, robotic approaches to malignant and benign lung, esophageal disease, and management of chest wall disease. He enjoys his free time with his wife and kids, travelling, playing soccer with his kids, and snowboarding.
All in-person sessions will be on the CU Anschutz campus.

Handicap Parking
Designated handicap parking is available in the visitor pay parking lots. Visitors must display the State of Colorado Disability Placard on their vehicle while in the visitor handicap parking areas along with parking payment receipt or the vehicle will be ticketed. Handicap parking spaces are subject to the same rate structure as indicated in the Patient and Visitor Parking section below.
Patient/Visitor Parking
On the CU Anschutz, there are daily cash customer parking lots for CU Anschutz Patients and Visitors: Parking for patients or visitors is located at any parking lot signed "Patient and Visitor Parking" and at parking meters. The daily parking rates are as follows:
The visitor parking lots have automated pay stations. The license plate of the vehicle parked will need to be entered at the pay station upon payment. The receipt does not have to be displayed on the dash of the vehicle. The pay stations accept many forms of payment:
Parkmobile Pay By Phone
Using Parkmobile allows you to pay for parking, at Parkmobile enabled pay stations, by phone. When using Parkmobile you choose how long you want to park and pay for that amount of time. When the expiration time approaches, you can receive a text alert allowing you to extend your time (within the maximum time limit for the lot.) Advantages include:
