Statement of Interest and Goals
My goals for the RFA are to develop avenues for retired faculty to pursue active roles within the Campus sharing their expertise and knowledge. My interests also include developing programs and networking for retired faculty to pursue artistic, cultural, and travel opportunities.
I am seeking the role of Chair as retirement is our second or third career. Retirement is a time to explore new opportunities and to develop new interests. I want to develop meaningful associations that build on the strengths of retirees that they can bring to the Medical Campus through mentoring and if possible, serve on committees. As Chair I would develop programs that enrich our retirement years.
My Priorities
1. The strategic direction of the RFA is to develop an association that benefits retirees by providing assistance for a smooth retirement process from the University and developing a fulfilling retirement career.
2. Advocate for greater participation of retirees on campus utilizing their strengths.
3. Participate in developing programs that the members of the RFA have identified that they would participate in.
Relevant Leadership Skills
I chaired the Department of Medical Oncology Research in Progress, recruiting speakers with overlapping fields of research. In our SPORE-Lung meetings, I facilitated consensus on our next research direction based on the research experiments presented.
Personal Note
I have been retired for nine years and through this second career I have developed a retirement plan that keeps me involved with science, mentoring and time to pursue meaningful cultural events and travel. Retirement from a university career whether in lab research, clinical practice, presenting research at scientific meetings through talks and posters is difficult for many. One needs a plan for this next career and ways to continue to contribute to their field of interest or how to pivot and pursue new interests. Through the RFA we can assist retirees into this new and exciting time.
