Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Oct 19, 2026
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and all four University of Colorado campuses are sharing how cyber smart starts with you. You don't need to be a cybersecurity expert to mitigate cybercrime or protect our university. A few simple defensive habits can help stop or disrupt many of the cyberattacks we encounter.
Focus on four habits:
- Protect your sign-in. Use the secure Duo Push for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and never approve a sign-in you did not initiate.
- Use a unique password. Create a strong, unique password and avoid using the same one for multiple logins.
- Question the message. Slow down when an unexpected message asks for money, credentials or immediate action.
- Verify the request. Confirm identities and requests through a trusted, independent channel.
