2026 COAHEC HOPE Institute Counselors & Anatomy Instructors

We’re looking for healthcare profession students, teachers and educators to serve as counselors or anatomy instructors for the Colorado AHEC HOPE Institute, a week-long healthcare career exploration camp for rural and underrepresented high school students from across Colorado.

Counselors FAQ

The Colorado AHEC HOPE Institute is a weeklong healthcare career exploration camp for rural and underrepresented high school students across Colorado. The camp takes place at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS), and CU Anschutz Medical Campus from Sunday, July 26, 2026, until Saturday, August 1, 2026. Counselors will stay in the dorms with campers at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

$1,525 for the full weeklong camp
Includes required online training and Zoom live training on June 15, 2026
If hired as a counselor, you will be required to provide a current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification. If you do not currently have one, COAHEC will reimburse up to $65 for completion of the American Heart Association BLS Provider course. To receive reimbursement, you will need to submit a copy of your BLS certification along with your course receipt. You may coordinate with your COAHEC manager to submit payment for the course.

We are seeking individuals who are:

Enthusiastic, responsible, and professional
Interested in education, healthcare, and mentorship
Strong communicators who can work with high school students
Able to lead, adapt, and think critically in dynamic settings
Experience working with youth is preferred

Morning

Ensure students are ready and at breakfast on time
Confirm students are prepared for the day (materials, attire, etc.)
Take attendance before boarding transportation

During Sessions

Supervise and actively engage students
Ensure a BLS-certified staff member is always present
Monitor participation and support student engagement
Accompany students on breaks

Evening

Ensure all students receive meals
Lead structured debrief sessions
Conduct room checks before lights out (9:30 PM)
Enforce lights-out procedures
Review the next day’s schedule with students
Stay overnight in dorms as assigned

General Expectations

Limit personal device use (except for program communication)
Follow all minor safety and conduct policies
Report issues immediately to COAHEC staff
Maintain professionalism at all times

Anatomy Instructors FAQ

The Colorado AHEC HOPE Institute is a weeklong healthcare career exploration camp for rural and underrepresented high school students across Colorado. The camp takes place at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS), and the CU Anschutz Medical Campus from Sunday, July 26, 2026, until Saturday, August 1, 2026. Instructors will attend a mandatory training date and time TBD and will work at the UCCS all day Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
