Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff and Service Award



Honoring Excellence Across CU Anschutz


The Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff and Service Awards celebrate the exceptional contributions of CU Anschutz Medical Campus employees who exemplify the university’s values and mission.


Outstanding Staff and Supervisor Award


Beginning in 2026, four Outstanding Staff and two Outstanding Supervisor recipients will be selected from across the campus. Nominees should embody the CU Anschutz mission and vision and the University of Colorado’s core values, demonstrating:

  • Innovation – Creative solutions or improvements that advance operations, services, or research
  • Collaboration – Building effective relationships and fostering teamwork
  • Customer Focus – Delivering outstanding service to students, faculty, staff, patients, or the community
  • Integrity – Upholding ethical standards in all actions
  • Impact – Making a significant, measurable contribution to their unit or the campus

Staff members selected will be awarded $1,000 each, subject to IRS tax withholding. In addition, awardees will be recognized during the annual Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff and Service Awards event.


Eligibility


All classified staff and university staff (excluding faculty) employed at CU Anschutz are eligible, with the following criteria:

  • Minimum of one year of employment at CU Anschutz as of January 1st and appointed in a position of at least 50% time (e.g., 20 hours or more per week)
  • Must be an employee in good standing with a performance rating of at least 3 on the most recent annual performance appraisal.
  • Must not be in a student or medical trainee/resident role.
  • Temporary employees, return-to-work retirees, and officers of the university are not eligible.
  • Supervisor nominees must hold a formal supervisory role with direct reports.
  • Staff nominees must be in an individual contributor role, without direct reports.
  • Past recipients must wait five years before being eligible again.

Nomination & Selection Process


A call for nominations is sent each year to the campus community in January. Nominations will be reviewed by the selection committee that includes representatives from the Chancellor’s Office, Central Human Resources, CU Anschutz Staff Council, and previous award recipients.


How to Nominate


Submit your nomination through our online nomination form, which includes specific prompts to guide your responses. Be sure to include concrete examples that highlight the nominee’s contributions.

Multiple nominations for a single individual are accepted and will be reviewed; however, the number of submissions does not increase the likelihood of selection. Awards are based solely on the quality and substance of the nomination content.

The University of Colorado Anschutz recognizes the extraordinary dedication of its staff and research assistants. The Chancellor’s Staff Years of Service (YOS) Program was established to recognize milestone years of service with the university.

Departments Interested in Recognizing Years of Service


Recognizing years of service is a wonderful way to show appreciation to employees. For staff and research assistants, the campus-level program recognizes all qualified university experience. We recommend colleges, schools or departments focus on years of service within their college, school, or department.
