Department Summary: 
CU Innovations is working with researchers and clinicians to discover new treatment options, medical devices and innovative technologies to improve the lives and outcomes of patients. CU Innovations works directly with researchers, clinicians and external partners at the University of Colorado, and staff at UCHealth and at Children’s Hospital Colorado to commercialize their innovations. Work Arrangement & Location: This position exists on the CU Anschutz Campus in the CU Innovations office, 1890 N. Revere Ct, Aurora, CO. The position has a hybrid work arrangement for occasional in office meetings, but most work can be completed remotely.

Position Overview: 
The Healthcare Innovation & Entrepreneurship (HIE) Initiative within the department of CU Innovations is seeking a creative and proactive communicator to support our marketing and communications efforts, with a focus on content creation and community engagement. This role is responsible for drafting and scheduling weekly social media posts, light graphic design work as needed, and managing audience engagement on LinkedIn. The candidate will collaborate with the HIE Initiative team to highlight funding programs, events, faculty and partner stories, while also contributing original ideas to strengthen the initiative’s presence in the healthcare innovation space. Additional responsibilities include writing feature articles on faculty innovators, developing promotional materials, attending events to gather content and supporting broader visibility efforts across campus and industry.

Key Responsibilities/Job Duties: 

LinkedIn/social media

  • Draft ~4 pieces of content for the CU Innovations LinkedIn page each month or once per week (writing the posts, plugging imagery into Canva templates, creating quote cards, uploading and tagging, scheduling out, etc.)
    • The CU Innovations team will help feed content ideas to you related to funding programming, webinars, trainings, faculty, partners, etc.
    • We also welcome your creative ideas on other content that would be a value add for expanding and supporting our healthcare innovations community.
  • Monitor our audience and engage/respond on LinkedIn at least 30 mins a week; flag pieces of content we should share or interact with along with your recommendation
  • Help build out a target list of influencers to follow and engage with regularly (faculty, students, investors, industry, mentors, partners, peers, etc.)

Writing & content

  • Interviewing and writing articles on faculty innovators and their science
  • Recording faculty interviews / stories on zoom and editing in iMovie to a one minute video teaser about their innovation (for LinkedIn campaign and QA on newsroom)
  • Post faculty stories/ Business Development technologies Q&A features on the newsroom
  • Attend events or webinars (virtual/in-person) to capture insights, photos, or content for recap summaries and posts
  • Helping develop language for promotional flyers

General

  • Other ad hoc opportunities to support marketing and comms expand visibility across campus and industry for the HIE Initiative and CU Innovations work at large 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as a current CU Student (must be in junior year or higher of a bachelor’s degree program or a Master's of Arts) with areas of study in communications, marketing, graphic design, media or related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an eye for clarity and tone
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn, Canva, Google Docs, and basic content tools

Competencies:

  • Interest in healthcare, science communication, innovation and/or business
  • Comfortable interviewing others and distilling technical concepts into accessible language
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be dependable, detail-oriented, flexible, organized, willing to learn, possess the
  • Ability to multi-task and have a professional demeanor.

Length of Employment:
Minimum of 1-year commitment required

Expected Hours:
This student fellow position is expected to work 3-5 hours per week.

Wages and Benefits:
Wages are hourly at $20/hour
