Promoting education, scholarship, and community engagement on the lessons of the Holocaust for health care and society.
Walk the Grounds of History at Auschwitz with other medical residents and fellows to explore the ethical collapse of medicine under Nazism. This immersive, place-based experience fosters intimate discussions with leading bioethicists and historians.
Over four days in Kraków in the fall of each year, participants reflect deeply on how medical professionals became complicit in atrocities, and how these lessons can inform ethical decision-making in today’s complex healthcare environment. Topics include prejudice in care, informed consent, and professional responsibility under pressure—challenges that remain relevant in contemporary medicine.
This highly competitive program is a collaboration of renowned global institutions and includes room, board, registration, and a travel stipend. Please email Matthew Wynia for application information.
"Witness to the Holocaust" is a powerful sculpture series by Devorah Sperber, paired with poignant quotes from "The Diary of Anne Frank." The series explores the artist’s journey of confronting her family’s history during World War II and grappling with her identity as a second-generation survivor.
Sperber reflects, "Although inner strength and the will to live contributed to personal survival, luck and chance also came into play. And if my father survived by chance, then I too exist by chance."
Made possible by the generous gift from Devorah and Hannah Sperber in memory of Henry Sperber, a Holocaust survivor and an inspiration to all.
