Request VPN Access

Virtual Private Network (VPN), provides encrypted connectivity to university systems and resources using the GlobalProtect VPN client. Use this service to request new VPN access or receive support diagnosing and resolving issues with your VPN connection.

Mandatory Location Services

All university-owned devices will have location services enabled for Microsoft Teams, users will not disable it. Non-compliance may lead to access suspension to ensure safety and regulatory adherence.

Do Not Reuse Your Password

Passwords must not be reused; reuse weakens password security:

  • You must never use the same password for your CU account that you use with any of your other accounts.
  • If you manage multiple accounts (see account types below), no two accounts shall ever share the same password.

Supported Software

Run current, supported software and be set to automatically update. The use of operating systems and software that are not being actively updated, are no longer supported by the vendor, or are considered end of life is prohibited.

Register with Duo (MFA)

Duo is the university’s tool for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), which enhances security by requiring users to verify their identity before accessing university information. Using MFA makes it more difficult for a cybercriminal to access the university’s systems in the event your credentials or information is compromised. Duo is mandatory for accessing systems such as student and employee portals, Human Capital Management (HCM), and other systems that contain protected information.

Regulatory Compliance

These actions are necessary to ensure the safety of all university constituents and regulatory compliance as required by RAY BAUM’s Act and Kari’s Law.

Do Not Share Your Password

To maintain security, never share your account password with anyone. The OIT Service Desk will never ask for your password or passphrase and neither will anyone else.

Device Management

Be enrolled in:

  • Windows: Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager/Intune
  • Mac: Approved MDM solution, enterprise solution

Do Not Share Your Account

All accounts must be used by a single user. For group accounts, such as a shared email, it must be created as a shared inbox where each user logs in using their own university credentials. No accounts should use a single password for multiple users.

Disk Encryption

Be encrypted with whole disk encryption.

Do Not Write Down Your Password

Passwords must not be written down or stored in an easily accessible location.

Firewall is enabled.

Microsoft Defender

Microsoft Defender is installed and enabled to run real-time scanning to prevent, detect, and remove malware or potential vulnerabilities.

University VPN client is installed for all university-owned mobile computers and university-owned computers housed outside of the university.

Local passwords must adhere to university password standards (link).

Authentication Controls

Use integrated authentication to verify the identity of a user or device.

Session Security

Enable password protected screen savers and automatic idle session locks.

User Permissions

User permissions and roles must be limited to only what is needed to perform assigned duties.
