Emission Reduction from Parking Lot Lighting Projects
Mar 4, 2024In addition to providing increased visibility and safety, the parking lot lighting project has helped our campus to reduce our carbon footprint. In total, this lighting project resulted in 477 metal halide fixtures being replaced with LED fixtures and another 10 additional LED fixtures were added where others were not present. The campus saw an increase in efficiency with a reduction of 15,200 watts and a 187% increase in average lumens per fixture.
This equates to emission reductions of 26.9 metric tons of CO2. To put that in perspective, it is equivalent to burning 10.37 tons of coal or driving a Toyota Corolla 167,052.8 miles. That's like driving a Corolla around the world 6.71 times!
