Dear students, faculty and staff,
We are pleased to announce that Brian Tsuji, PharmD, has been named dean of the CU Anschutz Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, effective January 1, 2026. This appointment follows an extensive national search for the right leader to take CU Anschutz Pharmacy into the future, and we look forward to welcoming Dr. Tsuji to the role.
Dr. Tsuji is a licensed pharmacist and an internationally recognized clinician-scientist who has served the University at Buffalo (UB) in New York for more than two decades, currently as Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Sciences, Linda Edelman Endowed Chair in Experimental Therapeutics, and Head of the Division of Clinical and Translational Therapeutics in the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, Infectious Diseases Society of America and Society of Critical Care Medicine, and he is Past-President of the International Society of Antimicrobial Pharmacology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Tsuji has been known for bringing energy, creativity and a relentless commitment to collaboration in research, training, clinical service and leadership. He is renowned for his work to develop new therapeutics to combat antibiotic-resistant “superbugs,” and for leading the international consensus dosing guidelines for the polymyxin antibiotics, which have been adopted by hospitals across the U.S. and worldwide. He leads two of the largest NIH R01 grants at UB as principal investigator, employing a “team science” approach to combat the public health threat of antimicrobial resistance and improve the care of patients.
Dr. Tsuji built the UB Division of Clinical and Translational Therapeutics from the ground up by assembling interdisciplinary teams of PharmD, PhD and MD investigators, scientists and students to tackle the world’s most pressing public health challenges. He led the creation of the first MS in Clinical and Translational Therapeutics in the country and an NIH T35 program focused on training next-generation clinician scientists in partnership with the School of Medicine ‒ reflecting his commitment to innovation in education and training across the health sciences.
We are grateful to the search committee, chaired by Colorado School of Public Health Dean Cathy Bradley, PhD, for its leadership throughout this process. We extend our thanks to Ralph Altiere, PhD, for preparing us well for this transition as he steps back from his role as dean to continue as a valued member of our faculty.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Tsuji to our school and our campus. We look forward to an exciting next chapter for CU Anschutz Pharmacy.
Sincerely,
Don Elliman
