A Boost to Our Minimum Wage - 6-24-21

Dear students, faculty and staff,

At the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, we know our greatest strength is our people. Today, I am pleased to share that the minimum wage at CU Anschutz will increase to $15/hour, effective July 1.

At a critical time of economic recovery, rising costs and rapid change, we hope this move to deepen our investment in hardworking faculty, staff and student workers will provide essential resources at a vital moment in time for valued members of our campus community. We also recognize that by taking this action now, we heighten our ability to successfully attract and retain skilled individuals to our workforce in the future.

The boost to our minimum wage will affect nearly 400 university and classified staff members, including temporary staff, as well as student workers, student faculty, professional research assistants and research associates at CU Anschutz. We are fortunate that the full cost of this increase will be borne by our schools, college and central services units, and we do not expect to see any associated impacts to tuition on our campus. Those benefiting from the increase will soon hear more from their supervisors or unit heads.

Investments in our people are investments in our future. By elevating minimum wage at this time, we make a difference for many at CU Anschutz today, while ultimately deepening our connections to the surrounding Aurora community and impact on the State of Colorado’s economy. Paired with the compensation budget initiative and tuition buy-down announced previously, we are on strong footing as a new fiscal year begins and we set our sights on the future.

We have many to thank for making this increase to the CU Anschutz minimum wage possible. I am grateful to the deans and provost, and our finance and human resources teams for their leadership on this effort.

With gratitude,

Don Elliman
