File Storage Best Practices

University faculty, staff, students and researchers all work with varying degrees of sensitive information. This can be university documents, student files, patient information, or research projects. To protect your work and efforts, we strongly advise against storing data and assets directly on your desktop as it makes recovery efforts difficult (and in some cases, impossible) should your device get lost, stolen, or damaged.

The Information Security and IT Compliance (ISIC) approved file storage locations include H: Drive/Isilon or the university provided OneDrive for Business. We strongly encourage all university information, data and assets be stored in one of these file locations to ensure they are easy to retrieve if you need a new device, protected if there is unexpected event that could lead to data loss on your desktop, and are compliant with federal and university information security regulations.
