Sponsored Projects Training Courses

Financial Services is pleased to offer a variety of trainings that relate to sponsored projects activities within the university. The training includes the Sponsored Projects 101 training co-developed with the department led Research Administration Workforce Committee (RAWC), as well as several advanced courses for those who work in research administration on this campus.

Course Description

This course provides an overview of research administration and sponsored projects. Topics include: an introduction to the university offices involved in sponsored research, the types of sponsored projects, the award lifecycle, and a discussion on the importance of compliance.

Course Description

This courses provides an overview of the cost principles that apply to sponsored projects. The cost principles identify and explain which costs may be charged to a sponsored project and how those costs should be classified.

Course Description

This course reviews the pre-award phase by examining sponsor requirements, university procedures and policies, proposal development, and the sponsor selection process.

Course Description

This course examines the administrative and financial requirements for managing an award. Topics covered in the course include: reading and understanding the award document, administrative requirements for sponsor awards, financial management, reporting, and closeout.

Course Description

This course will provide an overview of how intellectual property and commercialization are handled by the University, as well as the role of CU Innovations, the technology transfer office at the University.

Course Description

This course applies best practices for financial management of sponsored projects by analyzing case studies. This course discusses how to project costs, mitigate potential cash management problems, allocating shared costs, and discussing project finances with principal investigators (PIs).

This courses provides an overview of 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) by reviewing the provisions most applicable to research administrators at the University. This course will help you to locate provisions within 2 CFR 200, understand the applicability of 2 CFR 200 to federal awards, and know the general governmentwide requirements for federal grants and cooperative agreements.

Current pre-award research administrators at the University will present this course and provide tips and tricks to make your life easier. Topics include: budget development, grant transfers, subcontract budgeting, and the connection of the pre-award phase to the post award phase. Course Description

This course provides an overview of the day-to-day aspects of a post award administrator. Current post award administrators at the University will present this course and provide tips and tricks to make your life easier! Topics include: fiscal management, working with CU Data, rebudgeting, prior approvals, and a case study. Suggested Prerequisite: SP 04: Post Award Administration for Sponsored Projects.

Course Description

This course reviews the required policies and procedures for monitoring the University's subrecipients (outgoing subcontracts). Topics include: roles and responsibilities for subrecipient monitoring, reviewing invoices, dealing with noncompliant subrecipients, and closeout.
