New Year’s intention: Learn the Basics of Palliative CareKelly Arora, PhD Jan 2, 2024
Are you thinking about how you might enhance your skills and knowledge in 2024? Join thousands of people around the world who have already learned the basics of palliative care from faculty in the University of Colorado School of Medicine’s Master of Science in Palliative Care program. You can access our short videos (under 10 minutes each) for free on the Coursera education platform.
We created these videos to help people understand that palliative care is not just hospice. Of course, end-of-life care is an important time for a palliative approach. But given that the CDC estimates 6 out of 10 adults in the U.S. have at least one chronic health condition, the likelihood is higher than ever that we’ll all need palliative care at some time in our life.
Palliative care is both the philosophy and the practice of easing suffering
for people living with a serious or chronic illness.
We’ve designed 4 courses to teach basic palliative care concepts and skills to everyone, including people who have a challenging health condition, family caregivers, and professional providers:
- Easing Suffering
- Easing Pain
- Easing Physical Symptoms
- Easing Psychological, Spiritual, and Social Distress
Our mission is to enhance basic palliative care knowledge and skills without financial barriers, so enjoy our content for free. If you’d like to add a certificate of completion to your resume, you can pay a modest fee for each course and complete simple end-of-course assessments (see Coursera.org for details).Embrace your New Year’s intention and help ease suffering in the world! https://www.coursera.org/specializations/palliative-care
